Term 2 - Week 10 - 12

Learning To Create Google Slides

Since we made our own amazing pillows. We used Google Slides to show how we made the pillows. It was really fun learning how to use another Google programme. We were learning:
- How to add a slide, text, a picture and audio
- How to change the font (style, colour and size)
- How to change the background

We posted our Google Slide on our personal blogs. Check them out!

Te Whare Tapa Wha

This year we are learning all about 'Te Whare Tapa Wha' which is about our hauora, wellbeing, feeling and functioning well. When we 'check in' with ourselves and others, we can ask: Am I feeling okay and able to do the things I need to do? If the answer is 'YES', our wellbeing is pai!

There are four areas (walls) that contribute to our wellbeing these include our:
Taha Tinana - Physical Health
Taha Whanau - Family and Social Health
Taha Wairua - Spiritual Health
Taha Hinengaro - Mental and Emotional Health

If we're caring for each area, our whare is strong and we're likely to have great wellbeing. If we're not feeling our best, we can look at these areas and see which ones we can strengthen.

Here are some of the activities we did to strengthen and become more aware of our Te Whare Tapa Wha.

To learn more about Taha Hinengaro the students listened to the story 'The Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister and acknowledged the different emotions/feelings of the characters in the story. Later the students also discussed how they were feeling and discussed what we can do when we aren't feeling ka pai. When you are in Room 10 next make sure you check out our Whare to find out what you could do!

To learn more about Taha Tinana the students researched healthy food and exercise, snipped photos of these and pasted them onto a Google Doc so we could print and display them. Check out all the healthy food and exercise the students found. I hope they are trying these exercises at home.

We learnt about Taha Whanau and listed all the different groups Room 10 belong to.

Cooking

As part of our 'Te Whare Tapa Wha' study and to celebrate the end of the term we learnt how to cook. The main ingredient we used was baked beans.

We also made milo on a chilly day.

Term 2 - Week 7

Samoan Language Week

We looked at different patterns from around the Pacific and what each pattern symbolises. We all coloured in 4 patterns and then put them together to make a collaborative art piece.

After that we learnt about symmetry and rotation which led the students to making their own Samoan 'starfish' pattern. First they had to make a rectangle piece of paper into a square. Then they folded it in half and then half again. Next they folded that piece on the diagonal and cut a crescent shape around the edge of the paper. After they unfolded it to reveal a 'starfish' shape. Lastly we added colourful cellophane to fill in the gaps.

Here's a brief news report about what we got up to for Samoan Language Week. Well done to these three enthusiastic presenters for showing confidence and pride in the Samoan language and culture.

TikTok

We are definitely getting better at moving our body, moving to the beat and synchronizing our amazing moves.
